The South Carolina Aquarium showcases aquatic life from the five major regions found in South Carolina: Mountain Forest, Piedmont, Coastal Plain, Coast and the Atlantic Ocean.
Visitors journey from the mountains to the sea exploring plants, animals and habitats and their interdependence on one another. Along with habitat re-creations, many exhibits include text and graphics panels, video presentations, interactive displays and toddler exhibits.
The Aquarium's structure extends 200 feet out over Charleston Harbor. As visitors approach the Aquarium, they enter the ticketing area under a magnificent stained-glass art wall. Then, they are treated to the sigh t and sound of flowing water over a sculptural interpretation of the ACE Basin - the largest protected salt marsh on the East Coast.
In the Great Hall the Mountains to the Sea journey begins. An information center, visitor amenities, and gift shop are all here. The centerpiece of the Great Hall is the Carolina Seas Exhibit.
