Under the umbrella of the Sports Office I am located in the fitness department.  My job assignment is to bring variety and spice to the fitness life. Unlike sports, fitness is described more like the daily maintenance people provide for their bodies to keep themselves healthy. The Fitness Department steps in and offers a variety of fitness classes throughout the day on land and in the water using certified fitness instructors.  We feature wellness classes as a resource for the at work exerciser because fitness knows the value of the healthy worker. Lunch time walking, yoga, RUover 2?, aerobics, water fitness programs are all offered (and more) as options to help remove the opportunity for excuses.

The Fitness Department knows how easy it is to get bored with the treadmill, so special events that require exercise as its source of training are created like indoor triathlons, or hiking trips over standard treadmill walking. The Fitness Department brings basic nutrition support as well. Teaming up and going to the local restaurant for dining while dieting or learning to be a healthy food shopper with grocery store field trips are all part of our program

In short our mission is to spread the gift of health.

August is "Try A Tri" Month.

For the entire month of August, MWR will hold Triathlon training every Saturday morning.

This event will feature:
Running 3.0 miles
Biking 12 miles
Swimming 400 meters (down and back 4 times).

I am allowing non-swimmers to walk this length in the pool.

This triathlon will have all events take place indoors.

If you want to compete or just do it; join us every Saturday during August.  Everyone is provided with a 10 week
training guide to use as a roadmap to get the most out of their time spent in training. If you have ever wanted to
compete against yourself, then performing an indoor Triathlon can be quite rewarding for you.

Get in shape, lose weight, challenge yourself. There are so many great reasons to ‘Try a Tri’ in the month of August.

Join us!

MWR Young & Fit

MWR is offering fitness programs for young adults. In conjunction with the Child and Youth Services Child Care Program, MWR knows the importance of fitness being made available to the adult and the young adult community. Children aged 12 to 17 can now participate in a fitness program designed especially for them.

Every Saturday the MWR Young & Fit program hours are from 8am to 12 noon. Starting at 8am we will begin with strength training programs until 11am.  An interval workout will begin next. This one hour class will feature flowing drill exercises that will target the entire body. Although created for our Young & Fit population, we encourage parents to join in and workout side by side with them.

The Young & Fit program comes complete with weekly handouts designed to help encourage lifestyle changes, bring awareness to better physical health and more. For more information contact Pam Greene at 751-5768 or come by the Solomon center Saturday morning and get started.
