Text Box: Helpful Hints for TEFRA Hearing
Family Connection, working with SC Department of Health and Human Services, has published a new brochure on TEFRA. Application packets are also available. Many parents report their frustrations with hearings on denied eligibility for TEFRA applications and recertification. Below are some suggestions on preparation for the hearing:-
Be prepared to tell/show documentation of your child’s limitations.
If you take files, have them neat and organized for easy reference and present them with clear examples.
Be prepared to prove the severity of your child’s limitations. Medical documentation will improve your case.
Tell how much is involved in the daily care/routine of your child.
Read through Childhood Listing of Impairments (Contact Voc Rehab for a copy) and copy information to use along with medical references.
